🍓 Ingredient Notes + Substitutions

To create the perfect Strawberry Moscow Mule, you can find everything you need at your local grocery store.

The ingredients for a strawberry Moscow mule on a wooden table.
  • Vodka. Use good quality vodka such as Grey Goose, Absolut, Smirnoff No. 21, or Tito’s vodka.
  • Fresh strawberries (for strawberry puree and garnish). I used fresh strawberries, but you can also use frozen strawberries. You can also substitute the strawberries with any fresh fruit such as raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries.
  • Lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime juice makes a huge difference in this drink. However, you can use bottled lime juice if that is what you have.
  • Ginger beer. My favorite ginger beer brands are Q Drinks Ginger Beer, Fever-Tree, and Crabbie’s.
  • Ice cubes. Add ice to the shaker to cool the drink as well as your glass.
  • Lime wedge (for garnish).
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish).

🍹 How To Make A Strawberry Moscow Mule

Begin by washing the strawberries under cold water. Cut off the green tops and slice the strawberries into smaller pieces. Set one aside to use as a garnish.

Add sliced strawberries to a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to muddle and crush the strawberries, releasing their juices. Muddle until a smooth strawberry puree forms.

Top off the Moscow mule mug with 4-6 oz ginger beer. Give it a gentle stir to combine the ingredients.

Tip: Pour the ginger beer slowly as it may foam up quickly and overflow (yes, it happened to me). 😉

Take a sprig of fresh mint and slap it between your hands to release its aroma. Place the mint sprig in the mug as garnish.

Cut a small slit in a lime wheel and strawberry and slide them onto the rim of the mug. Alternatively, place a couple of strawberries on a cocktail pick and place it across the top of the mug for garnish.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

💭 Expert Tips

  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
  • If using frozen strawberries, allow them to thaw slightly before muddling.
  • Muddle the strawberries well to release their juices and flavor.
  • Don’t skimp on the lime juice – it adds a tangy kick that balances out the sweetness of the strawberries.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of ginger beer. I usually just pour it in until it gets to the top of the mug.
  • Use a copper mug if possible, as it helps keep the drink cold and adds an extra touch of authenticity.
  • If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, you can add a splash of simple syrup, honey, or agave syrup to taste.
  • For a non-alcoholic drink, simply omit the vodka and substitute ginger ale for the ginger beer.
  • Remember to enjoy your Strawberry Moscow Mule responsibly and savor every sip of this delicious and refreshing cocktail!
