Well, I am happy to say that this variation using rum instead of vodka is a winner!
What you’ll love about this recipe:
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Rum. I used Bacardi white superior rum. Substitute with vodka for a traditional Moscow Mule or bourbon for a Kentucky Mule.
- Ginger beer. I used Crabbies’s brand ginger beer, but feel free to use your favorite. You can even use ginger ale for a milder ginger flavor and less of a kick if you like.
- Lime juice. Fresh is best, but bottled can be used if that’s all you have. You can replace it with lemon juice for a slightly different citrus flavor.

How to make a Moscow Mule with White Rum
Step 1: Add white rum and lime juice to a copper mug.
Step 2: Fill nearly to the rim with ice cubes and top with ginger beer nearly to the rim.

Step 4: Garnish with fresh mint and a lime wheel, and serve immediately. Cheers!
Tips
- Use high-quality rum for the best flavor.
- Fresh-squeezed lime juice will also give you the best flavor.
- Gently stir the ingredients as over-mixing can flatten the ginger beer.
